Apple Pie

This morning I woke up talking about food.  Mostly, I told Kyle about holiday foods – the dishes we’ll probably have at our Thanksgiving dinner in MI with my family and the goodies I’m planning on making while I’m off for Christmas Break.  It must be a combination of thinking about holiday treats, the dismal/gray/wet/rainy weather we’re having outside, and the fact that I went to hear Alton Brown speak last night that I’ve been in the kitchen all morning.

First we had scones for breakfast.  Then, I baked an apple pie.  I’ve never made an apple pie by myself before.  I hope it ends up tasting good.  I guess even if it doesn’t taste like my mom’s, it still looks pretty.  (I’m still working on taking artsy photos and couldn’t decide which one was best, so I’m showing you all three shots.)

Can you tell it's rainy and gray outside?

Tonight we’re having Fish Tacos with Lime-Cilantro Crema and a homemade Mango Salsa.  Maybe you’ll see another post soon with photos of our meal.  (And us enjoying the pie.)

  1. If that pie is half as good as it looks, it should be awesome! It’s beautiful. I can smell it from here. Yum………Your infatuation with food makes me think you should run a Bistro or Cafe. Does that interest you at all or would it take the fun out of it? Can’t wait for the photos of your fish taco dinner. You are too much! Love you, Aunt Lyn

    • Thanks Aunt Lyn! The pie has been really good. 🙂 I’m sad that we only have enough slices left to have dessert tonight and then it’ll be all gone. Your idea about a cafe is actually spot on! Katy and I have always dreamed about opening up a little cafe someplace. I would LOVE to do that!!

(And, sorry – we didn’t take any pictures of the fish tacos. We were too interested in eating them!)

      • You and Katy would do an awesome job with a Cafe!! Great idea. I’d bet your Dad would happy to be a part of that idea too!
PS – I meant to tell you that your pie photo with the rain drops on the window was very artistic. Nice composition. You have a good eye for art as well as your talent with food. What a great combination.
        Love,
        Aunt Lyn

  2. i like the looks of your pie too. This morning Mom realized she hadn’t made an apple pie for our Marv Nite tonight, so asked if I could make a Swedish apple pie. I did and it got rave reviews. i think the secret was that I misread the 1 tsp for cinnamon and put in Tbs. And Yes I would like to be a part of your cafe bistro:)

  3. I just have to say that your apple pie inspired me to make an apple pie this past weekend. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve made one and it made Ron happy! Thanks Amy for the inspiration!
